Welcome to Tilley School
This past summer the staff of Tilley School spent three days in Waterton Lakes National Park to reflect on the journey that has seen Tilley School make it to this point. Through this process we realized there were very many things that Tilley School does exceptionally well and some things we needed to tweak a little. There were also some areas that we decided we must stop doing if we truly want to reach new heights .
The retreat in Waterton also gave us, as staff, an opportunity to look at some bigger educational issues in a very relaxed atmosphere. We made some crucial decisions about the direction we wanted to see Tilley School move and the strategies we would employ to make this happen. Once we started the school year we also spent a day at Lake Newell with the Junior High students to ask them what they felt were Tilley School strengths and where they felt we needed to focus to make Tilley School the best K-9 school in the province.
The areas we decided to focus on were increasing academic achievement, improve access to technology, supporting the Tigers Hockey Academy to attract new students to our school, and reemphasizing our three core values of respect, responsibility and self-control. We need to make Tilley School the natural choice for not only our community but for students in Brooks and area who are looking for unique learning experiences and also the opportunities that the Hockey Canada Skills Academy can provide for them.
There is a renewed sense of optimism in the hallways of Tilley School. We are building a renewed enthusiasm for education at Tilley School through initiatives like the British Petroleum A For Energy Grant, where students in Kindergarten through grade six have an opportunity to learn more about conservation education in their science program to SMARTboards in every teaching area. Students in Junior High have new laptops at a one to one ratio which allows them to integrate ICT outcomes into every curricular area. We have also partnered with 4H Canada to offer our options program. Through this partnership we have access to a broader range of options as well as opportunities for our students that no other students in Grasslands have.
In conclusion, we look forward to partnering with our community, school council, local business, as well as parents and students to make Tilley School the best K-9 school in the province. Education is a journey, not a destination and together we can become the village it takes to educate our children. Hope is our greatest commodity and instilling a sense of hope in future generations is one of educations greatest challenges in these turbulent times. Tilley School is an exceptional place to learn and every student has access to numerous programs and opportunities designed to ensure success for all. From our academic assistant to our special education programming through our fine arts and athletic programs to our dedicated staff we are a school designed on hope and focused on providing exceptional education to our children... our future!
