About the Library
In partnership with the Tilley and District Public Library, the Tilley School Library is a member of the Shortgrass Library System. This gives students access to the Shortgrass Library System webpage and iBistro Search engine in order to place holds on reading material that is not physically in the tilley School Library, but can be ordered from any of the other libraries in the system. The library provides various research materials, including magazines and searchable online databases. Students have access to several workstations in the library with wireless internet capability
Materials are lent for a 3-week period and can be renewed a maximum of two times. Students are assigned a library card which is kept in the library for checkouts. Students are not charged overdue fines, however, replacement costs for lost items do apply.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Tilley School library is pleased to announce that this year's Scholastic Book Fair will begin on Friday, October 23 and run through Wednesday October 28. The theme this year is GALAXY OF BOOKS. The Book Fair assists in promoting literacy in the school and community and is a fundraising tool for the school library for acquiring materials. Community volunteers are essential for the success of the Book Fair and everyone is welcome to help.
Literacy Day
Literacy Day falls on January 27 annually and the library organizes a "grandparents" reading afternoon. The term "grandparents" is used rather loosely, as you don't have to be anyone's grandparent to join in the fun! The Grades 1 through 4 students are paired with an adult and they spend approximately 15 minutes reading together, taking turns reading, etc.
Children's Storytime and Crafts
Did you ever wonder what programming is available locally for your preschooler? Miranda These offers a weekly Children's Storytime and Craft hour at the library. Following the story, Miranda leads the children in theme-related crafts, songs and games. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Library items may be checked out at this time. Storytime takes place every Wednesday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the library.
Read-A-Thon
Mrs. Crystal Atkinson organizes a Read-A-Thon for Grades 1 through 6 at the school. Students in Grades 3 through 6 are invited to sleep over at the school for the night! Breakfast is provided the next morning by the Tilley School Parent Advisory Council.
