Winter Weather & Bussing Information for Families
With winter weather approaching, Grasslands Public Schools would like to remind families about expectations and procedures during cold and inclement weather days.
Dressing for the Weather
With winter and colder weather approaching, we want to remind parents and guardians the importance of students dressing appropriately. Please ensure your child is wearing warm winter clothing that may include boots, snow pants, winter jacket, toque/scarf, and gloves.
Bussing During Cold/Inclement Weather Days
Different geographical areas within the Grasslands School Division may experience different weather and driving conditions. To monitor the weather, use the following website or app to check the weather for all of Grasslands School Division areas; https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca
Stay up to date on bus cancellations and updates by following us on the Grasslands App, Facebook www.facebook.com/Grasslandspsd/, listening to the local radio stations (101.1 & 105.7 FM), and watching our transportation bus routes and status link. Cancellations will be posted as soon as a decision has been made which is typically between 6:30 and 7:00 am.
Buses routes that are canceled in the morning due to extreme cold or inclement weather will probably not run at the end of the school day.
All students riding the bus need to be dressed appropriately for the weather in the event of a mechanical breakdown.
At -35○C or lower, (not including wind chill), bus drivers will be directed by the GrasslandsTransportation Supervisor to cancel their routes. For special conditions, including prolonged cancellations, please see the Inclement Weather & Impassable Roads procedure.
Please minimize the amount of time your child may be standing at a bus stop in very cold weather.
The responsibility and final decision to send children on the bus in the morning belongs to the parents and guardians, even if the buses are operating and the schools are open. If a parent does not believe it is safe for their child to ride a bus due to cold/inclement weather please contact the school if your child is going to be absent.
